Can I prepare metformin HCl syrup solution or suspension?

In the US, an oral solution of metformin is commercialised under the name Riomet.   RIOMET (metformin hydrochloride oral solution) is an oral antihyperglycemic drug used in the management of type 2 diabetes.   Metformin hydrochloride, USP is a white crystalline powder with a molecular formula of C 4 H 11 N 5 • HCl and a molecular weight of 165.63. Metformin hydrochloride, USP 2.0 g is soluble in 20 mL or water. The pKa or metformin is 12.4. The pH of a 1% aqueous solution of metformin hydrochloride is 6.68. RIOMET contains 500 mg or metformin hydrochloride per 5 mL and the following inactive ingredients: Cherry flavor, hydrochloric acid, potassium bicarbonate, purified water, saccharin calcium, and xylitol. This composition can serve as a starting point for the formulation of an oral solution.
