A CLI ë NT with ulcerative colitis suffers from the intake of Pentasa tablets. After all, they are large tablets, which they have to take frequently. It asks for a liquid form: solution or suspension.

Answer

When referenced to a mesalazine suspension, it is referred to as rectal administration (CLYSMA). Coated tablets or granules are administered orally, which exempts the drug as deeply as possible in the gastrointestinal tract and at a slowed pace. If one is to use a suspension then one must switch to Sulfasalazine (Salazopyrine), which by the bacteria in the colon split into 5-ASA and a sulfonamide.
