Question
Posted on: March 6 2013How do I prepare following ear drops: chloramphenicol 200 mg Prednisolone acetate 50 mg FSA ear drops 10 ml?
Problem: dissolves prednisolonacetate in propylene glycol or not? Or can I use prednisolone after phosphate, which does dissolve in water, but then the problem is that the chloramphenicol does not dissolve in water.
Answer
- for internal or external ear? Based on the composition I would say external ear. But you never know! Maybe better once ask.
- I have a strong suspicion that it will be used for external ear and that (have not been able to find in book) Prednisolone acetate dissolves in PG, in which Chloramphenicol also dissolves.
- Is it for the inner ear then we have a goose different story because then we have to prepare a watery sterile solution and then your prednisolone comes up after phosphate! Chloramphenicol is then dissolved in water using borax-60mg/100mg chloramphenicol-.
