I have a prescription for a metronidazole suspension based on Metronidazoolbenzoate; But this raw material is lacking.

R/metronidazole benzoate 3.2 g after benzoate 200 mg avicel RC 834 4g Caramelsyrup 10 ml aqua 20 ml Sir Simpl AD 100 ml. Can I use metronidazole?

Answer

The TMF (as well as the companies) use metronidazoolbenzoate because of the slightly better taste. So when using metronidazole you will confront the user (usually a child) with a horrible bad   taste. Therefore, I suggest to calculate the quantity to take and then to convert to Metronidazole. This amount is then prepared with metronidazole capsules. If the child Is not able to swallow it, the contents of the capsule can be brought inside a mass of chocolate paste and then covered with a second amount of chocolate spread. The child must take the whole mass in one sip.
