I recently got the following prescription: Triamcinolone 0.1 g sorbitansesquioleate 6g Vaseline white 54g Water BF 5 AD 100g FSA one ointment

I was wondering if there is a difference in resorption with Triamcinolone acetonide. Can one here replace Triamcinolone with Triamcinolone acetonide? Is there a difference?

Answer

There is a clear difference between triamcinolone and its acetonide. The latter is much lipofieler and specially developed for resorption through the skin. So in Dermatics, triamcinolone acetonide should be prescribed. Perhaps the prescribing doctor pointed this out. Dermatologists usually know this.
