Replacement of Bentonite (from trade) for stoma suspension with Calamine, ZnO, phenol

We prepared the following suspension for stoma care: calamine 15g, ZnO 5g, after citrate 500 mg, bentonite 3g, glycerol 5 ml, liquid phenol 0.5 ml, purified water up to 100 ml. Why can we replace bentonite (from trade) without damaging the water-taking capacity of the preparation?

Answer

answering your question, with a great certainty as to the correctness of the answer, is difficult. The thorny piece is the equivalence in water-taking power.

I was able to hand over the following data on the water-taking power

-Bentonite 5 X its weight to dry matter; at full saturation 15 X

-Nacarboxymethylstarch (Primojel) 18 X   but expensive in purchase

          Potato starch   7 X

The presence of phenol may have a negative impact on the water-taking capacity. Weakly more acidic groups can be driven back to their undissociated form.

Hopefully gives potato starch satisfaction
