For some mucopatienten in our institution I have to prepare drops of vitamin A. As raw material I have Vit. A 1.500.000 IU/G. How can I prepare a stable and homogeneous solution or suspension, 40,000 or 50,000 E/ml

I am now trying it out: Vit. A acetate 1.500.000 E/g in oil to dilute in Miglyol oil. Do you know how long this preparation is sustainable and how do I keep it? fridge, etc... < br/>

Answer

A homogeneous solution is only possible by diluting with oil. But I believe that oil is not beneficial for mucovisidosis patients. The best solution is to prepare an aqueous solution 50,000 E/ml via solubilisation.

Following composition should give satisfaction:

Vit A 1.5 million E/G 3.35 g Sorbic acid 0.2 g Tween 80 QS Anise volatile Oil 220mg Sugar Syrup 12.5 g and water up to 100ml (= 104g)

Preparation:

Dissolve sorbic acid in 50 ml of water (possibly heating), apply Tween 80 in a tarred mortar with pestle and rub the Tween open. Add Vit A Concentrate and anijsole and mix. Add sugar syrup and mix until a clear liquid is obtained. At one time, stir the sorbic acid solution into the mortar under good stirring. Place the mortar with pestle on the balance and fill with water up to 104g. Divide into smaller quantities. This solution should be kept in the refrigerator and should no longer be used six months after the preparation date. It is difficult to mention the correct amount of Tween 80. The correct quantity is to be tested experimentally. It must be between 8.5 and 10g.
