How can I avoid this?

Answer

There seems to be an incompatibility between Phenazone (Antipyrine) and tannin in the presence of water. It seems best to make the tannins very finely and rub them in beforehand with some of the simple ointment. Dissolve antipyrine (still benefit?) in water and and emulsifying with a second part of the simple ointment. Mix both mixtures and   add the Hamamelis to the last liquid extract.
