Aluminum chloride hexahydr 15%, Me cellulose 2%, AQUA AD 100ml.

We regularly prepare the formula of TMF where isopropanol is mainly used as a solvent. We find back in the Merck index that AlCl3 reacts with water explosively. Can this formula be carried out with only water as a solvent in all safety and used on the skin? Mvg

Answer

What you read about AlCl3 is slightly exaggerated but the reaction between aluminum chloride and water remains fierce. The salt used in pharmacy is the hexahydrate and this is no longer equivalent to the anhydride product.

In water, AlCl3 6aq reacts very acidic and therefore uses TMF isoporopanol. An alternative, which is used in many antiperspirants is already (OH) Cl2 that is less irritating.
