Can Lonsurf be processed in Orabase

Answer

Lonsurf contains trifluridine (pKa = 7.95) and tipiracil (pKa = 7.25). Both products are much weaker acid than cidofovir that contains two very acidic functions   pKa1 = 1.19 and pKa2 = 2.15. These two strong acid functions are most likely responsible for the grainy nature of your cidofovir gel in Orabase. Orabase contains three   polymers of which NaCMC is most strongly acidic. CMC is a weaker acid and is thus brought in its acidic non-ionized form. So it no longer occurs   as water soluble after salt and consequently the mucous formation disappears.

I think you are not going to have this with Lonsurf for considering the two constituents are weak acids. But you do have the problem with film-coated tablets. After grinding in a mortar you will have to sieves to remove the games from the film coating. And the tablet to be traced to a fine powder.

Addendum

To solve the problem of graininess at ciclofovir, I mean that an Orabase should be prepared without CMC. The latter I would replace with hydroxyethylcellulose medium viscosity.
