Question

Posted on: March 6 2013

During a wait we urgently had to make a omeprazole suspension for a baby of several months. Omeprazole 400mg after bicarbonate 8.6 g MFSA SUSPENSION DT 100ML

< br/> We made this with Mucilago na-CMC 10 g; Mucilago me-cellulose 25g; Sir Simpl 50 g; Aqua AD 100 g

after 21 days it is reported that the suspension has discolored yellow, where it was white first. Does it reduce the effect and/or does the suspension become harmful-or does the discoloration affect the effect?

Answer

I do not have a ready answer to your question, because little is known about the stability, interactions and discoloration of omeprazole. I can give some comments.

  1. I don't understand why you are using 2 mucus solutions; Wouldn't 1 be enough?

  2. Is sugar syrup necessary? For the taste maybe?
  3. If you already add 50 g sugar syrup is the mucus solution not superfluous? The viscosity will be sufficient.
I only see 1 way out and this is the preparation splitting and omeprazole together with NaHCO3 combine with 1 mucus solution e.g. Mecellulose or CMC (BOTTLE I) and on the other hand with only sugar syrup (BOTTLE II). And put in custody for 21 days.
