Question

Posted on: March 6 2013

Flamiclens is currently not stocked with firma. A doctor asks me to make this.

I suggest:
acetic acid 5%
Nacl 0.9%
Benzalkonium chloride 0.01%
Aqua Conservans Is It necessary to add a citric acid buffer to this? Do you have a proposal please?

Answer

According to the formula, which I find, this solution does not contain acetic acid but rather citric acid and nacitrate. It is of course annoying that we do not know the pH, so we will assume that pH = 7.0. With acetic acid it is not possible to set pH = 7.0 with Citraatbuffer.

We Mix 20 ml of a 0.1 m citric acid solution with 480 ml of a 0.1 M nacitrate solution. 0.1 m Citric acid contains 21 G/litre and 0.1 m citrate 29.4 g/liter. Benzalkonium chloride is hopefully Verengibaar and Aqua Conservans then becomes Aqua Purificata. If not, it becomes Aqua Conservans without benzalkonium. The whole can be sterilized in the autoclave for 20 min at 120 ° C.
