Question

The following formulation very well satisfies a patient who has been suffering from ichtyosis for years. Lactic acid 5 ml (6.05 g) dissolved in 40 ml water 35 ml ethanol 20 ml propylene glycol

< br/> The Pati ë NT would now like to have a preparation with the same properties, but in a less liquid form, rather in the form of milk, gel or emulsion. Can you help me with that?

Answer

Cr è me, milk or emulsion seems to me not to be evident because of the large amount of ethanol and propylene glycol, which will work destabilising. Personally, I would try it with a gel. For a Carbopol gel there will be a slight problem due to the presence of lactic acid. This will also consume base and be transformed into a lactate. Now this is not a nuisance because lactate is also found in moisturizing formulations. But the pH does become different! So there will be more base to be added than normal.
One can also rely on Hydroxypropylcellulose (Kluc
el) for the preparation of a gel. Both could be tried out to see the result.
