Following preparation gives problems: Boric acid 500 mg gelatine qs FAC 28 ovulae

We used the glycerin-gelatine base both water and water free. In Both cases we got ovulating that stick to each other, to the fingers and to the shape. They were also soft, making them probably rather difficult to bring in. The shape was also rubbed with a bit of glycerol to make the ovule come out better. Would we perhaps use better liquid paraffin?

Answer

You give the answer yourself: the shape has to be lubricated with a thin layer of liquid parraphine! However, there are also alternatives to the glycerin-gelatin mass: the classic Zetplilmassa and a PEG mass like e.g. PEG 4000 45 g; PEG 1500 55 g. After hard to store 15 min in the refrigerator at room temperature.

One can also prepare ovulation with agar by replacing 10% of the gelatine with agar-agar. Either use a base with the following composition: agar 1 g; water 20 g and glycerin 20 g. Agar is dissolved in boiled water and then Glycerin is added.

response due to Apoth Humblet The formula with Agar agar proved to be too crumbling in practice, this could easily be solved by increasing the concentration of the agar agar (x2) and lowering the amount of water slightly.
