A formula preparation of Lariam syrup 31.25 mg/5ml for travel to Africa.

Answer

It is necessary to assume Lariam tablets, which contain mefloquine HCl. This salt is little soluble in water so that it is most appropriate for the Officina to prepare a suspension. After calculating the number of tablets required, these are crushed in a mortar or with a coffee grinder, which will produce finer particles. As excipient we can make use of a composition, which is mentioned in the booklet Galenic Formularium  , booklet that should be present in each pharmacy. Given the presence of a cationactive substance, we opt for the Mucilago methyl cellulose FN 5. This can be added to: Nasaccharinate 200mg; Sorbic acid 100mg and sorbitol 4g.
