Guaifenesin Syrup gives stability problem

I have a syrup prepared with the following formula: Guaifenesin 2, 5g; Citric acid 100mg; Glycerol 5g; Aqua Dist 20g; Ethanol 96% 3ml; Tolubalm conc 3ml; Vanillin 100mg; Banana Aroma 3 drops; Sorbitol SYRUP 70% AD 100ml The guaifenesin was first rubbed with glycerol and then dissolved in water by heating. With a part of the sorbitol syrup and then added the other ingredients. The syrup remained stable for 3 weeks and then some crystallization came and the solution became less clear. Now I read from previous questions concerning Actifed syrup that the vanillin can also pose a problem, so I would leave it out. Perhaps also the amount of water halving and the level of ethanol which float up. Or could there be another problem, combination with Tolubalm maybe?

Answer

Here an alternative formula, which you can use as a starting point and apparently contains more water. So water halving does not show a good solution.

R/Guiafenesine 2 G; Menthol 35 mg, after saccharin 50 mg; citric acid 1 g, after benzoate 200 mg, alcohol 5 ml; glycerin 20 ml; sorbitol 70% solution 40 ml; water up to 100 ml
