Question
Posted on: March 6 2013How do I prepare ear drops with neomycin sulfate and prednisolone?
neomycin sulfate 200mg prednisolone 200mg Boron acid 240mg borax 200mg EDTA 20mg benzalkonium chloride 2mg Aqua purificata ad 20ml< br/>
Answer
I suspect that these ear drops are intended for the inner ear. Therefore, I would replace prednisolone with the equivalent amount of water-soluble prednisolones sodium phosphate. Given the stability of this product is located around a neutral pH, the amounts of boric acid and boron should be adjusted. We add 300mg and borax 600mg of boron acid. Benzalkonium chloride should be prepared with a 0.1% solution and an aliquot of 2ml is added to the ear drop. Since the delivered volume is quite large, it should be advisable to store the solution in the refrigerator.
