How do I prepare following ear drops: chloramphenicol 200 mg Prednisolone acetate 50 mg FSA ear drops 10 ml?

Problem: dissolves prednisolonacetate in propylene glycol or not? Or can I use prednisolone after phosphate, which does dissolve in water, but then the problem is that the chloramphenicol does not dissolve in water.

Answer

  1. for internal or external ear? Based on the composition I would say external ear. But you never know! Maybe better once ask.

  2. I have a strong suspicion that it will be used for external ear and that (have not been able to find in book) Prednisolone acetate dissolves in PG, in which Chloramphenicol also dissolves.

  3. Is it for the inner ear then we have a goose different story because then we have to prepare a watery sterile solution and then your prednisolone comes up after phosphate! Chloramphenicol is then dissolved in water using borax-60mg/100mg chloramphenicol-.
