How do I work out the water-soluble vitamin A solution in a nasal ointment? White Vaseline 20g Vl. Paraffin wax 10g Menthol 0.5 g vitamin A palmitate water soluble 1000 5ml

< br/> It's that last vitamin A water soluble which I have been struggling with. According to the Pati ë nte It is an old formula of NKO Leuven. I have contacted pharmacy GHB and with the BAF. I eventually chose to work on the quantities used in the Vitapanthol nasal ointment. But how much vitamin A does the prescriber mean?

Answer

Indeed you are right when you say that Vit A water-soluble solution gives problems. I see no advantage in the use of the water-soluble form and would therefore use the oil solution as a result. The intended vitamin A water-soluble solution is described in the Eur. Pharm. This solution contains 100 thousand I E per ml. So you can process an equal concentration in the ointment under the form of the oil solution.

If you want to use the water-soluble form, you will need to add Span or Arlacel C to emulsify the water soluble vitamin solution as W/O in the petroleum jelly. If it succeeds... Because this water-soluble solution contains a large amount of solubilizer (O/W)!
