How to prepare your best Lamictal syrup? :

R/Lamictal 6g Sirupus simplex ad 150ml. We now have 30 disp. 200mg tablets ' dissolved ' in 40ml of water and diluted with Sirupus simplex up to 150ml. This produces a white syrup. Is this OK to deliver after applying the label ' Shake before Use '

Answer

I cannot, of course, judge the viscosity of your mixture remotely.

I have looked up the composition of Lamictal dispersible tablets and found as excipients:   calcium carbonate, low substituted hydroxypropylcellulose, aluminium magnesium silicate, sodium starch glycol late (Type A), Povidone K30, Sodium saccharin, magnesium stearate, black currant flavouring.

I would think that after pulverize the tablets and mix with 40 ml of water a viscous liquid is obtained. We have in composition and sweetener and flavoring. So maybe just dilute it with water. A liquid for oral intake should not necessarily be very viscous. Preservative should be added to this aqueous suspension.

40 ml of water and 110 ml of syrup presumably gives a high viscosity. Maybe 50/100?   but also with your water/syrup ratio should ensure a preservative. So use "  water for preservation".
