How should I prepare the following ointment: Hydrocortisone acetate 3.75 mg/g lidocaine HCl 75mg/g aluminum subacetate 25mg/g zinc oxide 180mg/g unguentum simplex ad 30g

Answer

This is probably a suckling ointment. The problem lies mainly in the height of the alsubacetate, which is no longer available as a powder, but still exists in solution under the form of the Burow solution. This contains 8% alsubacetate which means that we need 30 g 9.4 ml of solution. In The ointment is about 15 g wool fat and these should be able to take up this volume aqueous solution. The remaining products should be finely rubbed, mixed and sieved and then processed in the ointment base.
