It's about following preparation: Sodium benzoate 4g codeine syrup 80ml raspberries SYRUP 100ml AQUA AD 200ml

After benzoate in the sour environment of raspberry syrup benzo becomes ë acid; Is this desirable, which makes benzo ë acid as a preservative, or is not desirable and should be replaced by Sir raspberries syrup. Simplex? what function does Nabenzoaat have?

Answer

I don't see why you would replace the raspberries syrup by sugar syrup. As you say, only the acidic form is benzoeic active as a preservative. Normal concentration 100 mg per 100 g syrup. In addition, Nabenzate is also used as an antiseptic for the respiratory tract. Now whether that syrup will be so acidic I doubt. Am the code ï ne not forgotten???
