Nasal ointment with eucalyptol and ephedrine

I would like to have your opinion on next preparation -Eucalyptol 150 mg -Naborate 300 mg -Ephedrine HCL 60 mg -Sweet almond oil 10 g -Petroleum Jelly 20 g Since no adrenaline in this preparation, can this simply be mixed? So eucalyptol, ephedrine and naborate mixing and adding almond oil and petroleum jelly? Thank you

Answer

This is a fairly old compound for a nasal ointment; indeed without levorenine. If we apply the current good practice, the use of naborate is not recommended. This product, together with boric acid, is still only authorised for ophthalmological use. Nasal ointments are largely withdrawn from the market. They are not an ideal galenic shape for the nose because of the silence of the cilia. If you want to administer aromatic oils, it is best to use an O/W emulsion.
