The palliative care unit of our hospital (AZ Jan Portaels Vilvoorde) asks us to prepare: Depakine 300 mg Suppos.

The vracproduct is not available. There are however Depakine droplets (300 mg/ml). Can one make Suppo & #039; s, and if so, how?

Answer

Processing 1 ml of solution in a suppository will not be easy unless perhaps by using suppositories of minimum 3 G. And then it is still a third of the total volume. You should then add one, I estimate, 200 mg of Arlacel per suppository to emulsify the solution in the suppository.

another and likely better method is to evaporant the amount of solution you have dry at a temperature of 60 to 70 ° C possibly under an airflow generated by a hair dryer. The dry rest I would then rub off with 300 mg of lactose powder and then process this mixture in suppositories.
