Please advise on the preparation and shelf-life of a sterile eye rinse 1% calcium gluconate.

This rinse is requested by a company in the context of a possible accident with HF.

Answer

I have to say that in the literature the use of cagluconate eye drops or rinse is completely discouraged as this causes a precipitation of CaF2 on the eye, which may cause visual disturbances later. A validated composition for an eye preparation based on Ca-gluconate is therefore not available.

in an accident with hydrogen fluoride, prolonged rinsing with flowing water is the motto. You (or the company) should inform if the Labour inspectorate is in the same opinion.

of course, the preparation of Ca-gluconate 1% eye rinse is not impossible even though finding data will not be easy. But I don't expect many problems.
