Please advise on the preparation of Econazoool nitrate 1% collyre.

Answer

The solution is not simple by the very poor solubility in water of econazoolnitrate.

  • Econazol nitrate should be suspended. A suspension can be prepared with methyl cellulose LV 1% as a viscosite booster. Preservative: nipa esters.
  • Econazol nitrate can be sterilized by dry heat 150 °C for 1 hour on a watch glass covered with aluminum foil. After sterilization one leaves it, always covered, cool to room temperature.
  • the suspension medium can be sterilized by autoclaving 20 min at 120 °C in the collyrevial; the NIPAs are dissolved in the medium. The preparation material: mortar, pestle, spatula... Can be sterilized wrapped in Pergamon paper by autoclaving; Then everything is dried in a hot air oven.
  • Once all of this is done, the sterilized econazole should be rubbed with the sterile suspension medium, with the mixing rules in eightname. For this, the sterile material is used, which is prepared in a LAF cabinet.
  • when everything is processed, the suspension is poured back into the collyrevial.

No simple task. As a further preparation, I can advise you to read the text on our website, which describes the preparation of a sterile eye ointment.
