Polymyxine sulfate content

Polymyxin B sulfate can be expressed in a number of units per miligram. However, this cannot always be determined unambiguously. The biological activity is not a mandatory test in the pharmacopoeia and also a very costly analysis. For that reason, most manufacturers do not analyze this parameter. In many cases, the value is taken from the manufacturer, a theoretical value is calculated or a minimum level is set. This ensures that an exact level of units per miligram cannot be used. Ideally, the prescription and protocol should therefore be dosed on the basis of miligrams or on the basis of units.
