Precipitation in the following preparation: prednisolone 2g chlorhexidine gluconate 2g castor oil 4g Ethanol 50 ° ad 200ml

We first dissolved the prednisolone in EtOH 90 ° and then mixed with chlorhexidine and castor oil and then gradually added the water, which gave a white precipitate.

Answer

Ricinus oil is soluble in alcohol (exception!) but certainly not in alcohol 50 °. So we take 100ml antiseptic solution in a size cylinder of 250ml. Prednisolone and castor oil are dissolved. Then we add 2g chlorhexidine gluconate 20% solution and check if the solution remains clear. We then slowly start diluting water and observing the clarity of the solution. As soon as some cloudy occurs, 20 ml of alcohol is added, mixed and further diluted with water. This is achieved up to 200ml. If there is cloudy, 10ml of alcohol is added.
