A question about the preparation of a syrup for euthanasia with the following composition:

Pentobarbital 9g Alcohol 96% 16.2 g (20ml) Aqua purificata 15g Propylene glycol 10.4 g (10ml) Saccharinum Natrijizz 250mg, Sirupus simplex 65g, Anisi aetroleum 1g < br/> In my opinion, Pentobarbital is not soluble in propylene glycol and Alcohol 96% ( and also not in water). I wanted to ask if it is not better to use it after salt of pentobarbital for this preparation. This formula is listed on Pag. 108 of the WZC formulary 2010.

Answer

I have searched left and right and believe that you should indeed use it after salt, even if pentobarbital is soluble in propylene glycol and alcohol. But the amount of pentobarbital, which has to be dissolved, is very large. There are compositions, resemblance to your formula, but with much less barbiturate. The disadvantage of using the salt is the shelf life. But I think this is not so important here. I suspect that this drink is taken in 1x and there is only a short period between preparation and intake.
