Silver nitrate aqueous solution 2% as ear drops:

Can you give me a protocol how to prepare this and what is the expiration date?

Answer

The first question, which comes up is the use. On the internet I found an application in the medical treatment of cholesteatoma in which a 1% solution is proposed as a possibly to use disinfectant. In addition to disinfecting, there is also a drying and anti-inflammatory effect. This solution is also used to mention ulcers in the external auditory canal.

The composition for a 1% solution reads: Silver nitrate 1.0 g; Potassium nitrate 1.0 g and water for injections 98.0 G. For a 2% solution this becomes: Silver nitrate 2.0 g; Potassium nitrate 0.7 g and water for injections AD 100 g

One prepares the solution with a glass stick in a beaker, both sterilized. After dissolving, the solution is transferred into a dropper bottle with a glass pipette, both pre-sterilized via the Deussen method. After all, the rubber of the pipette is not resistantly at a temperature of 120 °C. It is important to point out that the vial with the solution is always perpendicularly Berwaard as the rubber will be affected by the silver nitrate solution. This reaction is also detrimental to the stability of the solution.

Since the solution is light sensitive, it should be stored in the dark at room temperature. The solution should be removed if a darker colour is observed, possibly a precipitation or deposition on the wall of the bottle.
