We are asked in the hospital for an ointment to treat the PPE or hand-foot syndrome.

Answer

(Thanks Apoth. M. Dooms, UZ Gasthuisberg)
the hand-foot syndrome is a side effect of cytostatics (e.g. Caelyx, which is a adriablastina). It is also called Palmar-Plantar syndrome (PPE) and consists of swelling and pain of the extremities. Following composition can be used:
R/hydrocortisone acetate 1%
Dimethylsulfoxide * 50%
Carbomeer mucus TMF to 100%

* for good penetration with possibly thickened epiderm

procedure:
  • Dissolve hydrocortisone acetate in the dimethylsulfoxide.
  • mix with the carbomer mucus.
  • the bad odor can possibly be masked with 20 drops of lemon spirits per 100 gram.

Reimbursement:
This magistal preparation corresponds to all the RIZIV obligations and is therefore fully eligible for reimbursement.
