What product is meant by "BVDU" in this eyedrop?

This is the formula of the UZ: BVDU 7 mg boric acid 107mg 0.56 MG Benzalkonium Chloride 0.7 mg Aqua ad 7ml

Answer

BVDU corresponds to Brivudin and is a very new antiviral agent that is indeed used for herpes on the eyes. In attachment the chemical formula. As a brand name I have just found Zostex and this product seems to be on the market in Germany. As an eye drop I don't know. But in bulk you will not find this product. Gasthuisberg's Hospital pharmacy seems to have this product. Since it concerns an uncontrolled, not registered raw material the eye drops are just internally distributed. As alternatives, which are available in Vrac, we have acyclovir and IDU or idoxuridine.
