Process a pindolol (metoprolol, Atenolol...) in a suppository or drink. Are there data on stability, shelf life, Excipientia.....?

Answer

As far as the suppository is concerned, we are not able to dispose of the pure raw material with the handicap and we must process all the ballast in the suppository. If this is the case, then perhaps the suppository is preferable to the drink. I suspect little stability problems for suppositories. For liquid forms, it is quite often spoken of preserving the outside influence of the light.

for a drink I can make a few proposals which of course also assumes the pharmaceutical speciality. Caution for the dose when a modified exemption form is used.

  1. Metoprololtartraat beverage
    Metoprolol tablets qs
    Glycerol 40mL
    parabens 0.1%
    Water up to 100mL

    shelf life: 60 days
Storage: refrigerator; outdoor influence of light

  2. Atenolol Oral Solution 2 mg per ml
    Atenolol tablets 50mg 2
    Glycerol 5ml
    parabens 0.1%
    Methyl cellulose 1% to 50ml
grind the tablets and rub them with the glycerin. Then add the mucus solution.
    store at KT.
    Shelf life: 60 days

for both preparations, the usual shelf life for 2 months of magistal preparations is valid. But due to lack of research, a cautious attitude is adopted. I suspect that taste correction will be needed. For Metoprolol, the publication in Am. J Health Syst Pharm 1996, 53:2179-84 uses Ora-Sweet and Ora-Plus. These are two Excipi ë Nten, which are widespread in the US and taste sweet. In Belgian terms I would think of the xanthaangum vehicle of certa (with raspberry) but does this still exist? Perhaps a colleague has a nice proposal for this problem?
