Question
Posted on: December 8 2015Can be added after baking soda to a nasal ointment with ephedrine HCl and adrenaline tartrate?
R/Eucalyptol 200 mg
Ephedrine DL Base 300 mg
After bicarbonate 500 mg
Adrenaline tartrate Amp 1 mg, 5 drops
Vaseline White 20 g
Sweet Almond oil 10 g
In previous questions, I noticed that ephedrine base may be replaced by ephedrine HCl. There borax is deleted from the preparation because of problems with shift to alkaline environment of the adrenalin solution. This also applies to after baking soda, or continues to be necessary to neutralize the acidic environment of ephedrine HCl at the height of the nasal mucosa (ask sodium bicarbonate in nasal ointment with Ph-Efrine). Can white petroleum jelly in a nasal ointment, or better the yellow?.
Answer
From the composition, which you specify, we delete NaHCO3. An adrenaline solution must be acidic. Even under these conditions, there will be a short time of adrenaline, which you add in solution, not much left over. Therefore, in the answer to one of the questions raised on this subject is suggested to work with a dilution of adrenaline.
a 1:200 trituration of adrenaline is suitable to replace the 1 pro thousand solution. It is best prepared on the basis of mannitol. A quantity of 10 mg trituration corresponds to 1 drop of the solution. I would prefer white petroleum jelly.
