How do I prepare the next composition? Carbomeer 940 1.5 g Vaseline white 9g water. 8g Propylene glycol 2g lanette N 3g Paraffin wax Liq. 2.5 g capsitic oil resin 3.3 g

Triethanolamine 1.5 g
DMSO 75g < BR/>

Answer

This is without a doubt a common formula. The doctor aims to make good absorption of the medicine by using DMSO. This is a good penetration-promoting product, which, however, should not be abused because of its toxicity.

In The literature it is described that Carbomer is able to form a gel by hydrogen bridge formation with certain solvents. Maybe DMSO belongs to this group? So it could be that the prescribed triethanolamine is superfluous?

for the preparation, which should lead to a kind of emulgel, I would disperse carbomer in DMSO and see if a gel with a sufficient viscosity is formed. If this Is not the case, we add triethanolamine. On the other hand, I would melt the petroleum jelly together with the liquid paraffin and the Lanette N to prepare an emulsion with the heated water phase, which consists of water and propylene glycol. With this emulsion we add the Carbomeergel under good mixing. Eventually, Capsicumoliehars is rubbed off with the Emulsigel.
